Hype surrounding Assassin’s Creed III is building rather nicely ahead of Monday’s official reveal. Earlier today we brought you some leaked screenshots, now it’s time to tell you a little bit about the game itself.
Thanks to a thread over at NeoGAF featuring details found in the latest issue of Game Informer, we now know that game’s lead character is a half English and half native American called Connor.
Set between 1753 and 1783, the plot will centre around the cities of Boston and New York. Historical figures such Benjamin Franklin, George Washington and Charles Lee will make appearances in the game. Interestingly, Connor’s interaction with Washington will form one of the core relationships in the game. We can’t wait to see how that pans out!
In addition to Boston and New York, a third of Assassin’s Creed III’s will take place in an areas referred to as the Frontier. Here you’ll encounter all sorts of wilderness in a map that is said to be 1.5 times larger than the whole of Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. If that is indeed true, then consider us thoroughly impressed.
As if that wasn’t enough, just as we speculated earlier today, you’ll be able to hunt animals for resources, and how you kill them will end up having an effect on your reward. For example, a one hit kill on a bear will get you a much more valuable pelt than if you choose to stab it eight times.
Platforming will play a bigger role in Assassin’s Creed III, as you’ll be allowed to traverse trees, cliffs and ledges to set up kills.
Speaking of kills, Connor’s two main weapons will be a tomahawk and knife. Don’t worry, he’ll also be equipped with a handy hidden blade.
AI will be receiving some attention too, as enemies will react to the change in weather. For instance, in the snow, enemies will move slowly and stumble.
On the whole, it seems like Ubisoft are aiming to deliver a more fast paced and fluid gameplay experience, with the removal of a manual targeting system being the best evidence of that.
