Atomega is an online multiplayer FPS that flips the genre on its head and is beautifully basted in creative and experimental gameplay juices that you’d expect from the team behind the ‘Grow’ games.
Atomega is based around the end of time where reality is becoming null leaving only Exoforms – the final living organisms in existence. Exoforms are a mass of matter tethered together by energy and controlled by superior intellect. Their purpose? To relive the final moments of the universe in arena style combat situated at the edge of desolation.
In Atomega you need to acquire mass in order to evolve into greater Exoforms. Mass can be collected peacefully or by force if you choose to engage in a firefight with another player. Each round in the arena lasts 10-minutes with up to 8-players battling for mass allowing players to evolve into the swift and nimble ‘Atom’ or the brute like ‘Omega’. Mass isn’t only used for evolution purposes though as each piece increases your score and the player with the highest score at the end of each round wins.
The lighthearted tone of the game is reflective of the ‘Grow’ games but don’t let that lull you into a false sense of security as the multiplayer action is being referred to as relentlessly competitive.
Atomega releases on Steam next week, September 19th to be precise.
