Battlefield 3 To Have High Resolution Installation Option On Consoles

EA has confirmed to IGN that the console versions of Battlefield 3 will feature a high resolution installation option.

This means that if you choose to install the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 version of the highly anticipated first-person shooter on your console, the game will look that little bit better due to high resolution textures being streamed from the hard drive.

When IGN asked EA for a statement or confirmation regarding the matter, this is what they responded with:

“Battlefield 3 for Xbox 360 ships on two disks with endless hours of spectacular high-definition gameplay; disk one features the stunning multiplayer, co-op levels and HD installation content, and disk two features the superb single-player campaign. The PS3 version requires the same install but it’s all on the one blu-ray disk.”

This confirmation comes shortly after Battlefield 3 producer Patrick Liu spoke to GamerZines and stated the following:

“There’s a voluntary install on the 360. I think Rage did it as well, where you can install content to stream higher res textures. We’re pushing that technology to the limit, and compared to our competitors, I would argue that we’re the best looking game.”

Interesting news, I’m sure you guys will agree. The installation feature won’t turn the console versions into the PC one, but it’s certainly a welcome addition in our eyes. What do you think? Be sure to let us know via the comments section below.
