Beyond Good & Evil 2 In "Active Creation Stage"

by

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is currently is an “active creation stage”, that’s according to creator and Ubisoft man Michel Ancel.

“We are in an active creation stage and at this moment we are only focusing on the game and making it the best game that we can,” said Ancel.

The information comes courtesy of an interview translated by the folks over at NeoGAF, in which he also implied the game would not be getting released on the current generation of consoles.

“I can say that it’s a very ambitious game and we need some tech to achieve that ambition,” stated Ancel. “We focus on the game. We create it first, then we’ll see what can run it. We don’t say 2013 because we don’t know when it will come. We’re working to create a great game and it needs more tech.”

Ancel touched upon the Mirror’s Edge vibe that was given off by the teaser trailer released back in 2008, putting to bed any similarities to the DICE developed title.

“We had this concept even before Mirror’s Edge launched. And we have a different approach to the first person perspective that Mirror’s Edge has. Prince of Persia and Assassin’s Creed are closer to what we have in mind with the control of the character in a third person perspective,” said Ancel.

“We use a very dynamic camera that shakes a lot during the action to add life to the camera, giving the impression of an action news cover team following Jade. Maybe that could be similar to Mirror’s Edge but the game itself is very different.”

It might just be a strange coincidence, but just as the information from the interview emerged today, an in-engine screenshot found its way onto the Internet courtesy of All Games Beta. The screenshot matches up to the style of the footage in the old teaser trailer, showing what appears to be Jade in the distance with her Dai-jo staff.

What do you guys think of the screenshot? Can you wait until the next-generation of consoles to get your hands on Beyond Good & Evil 2? Let us know via the comments section below.
