Blizzard have today revealed that their annual convention, BlizzCon will not take place this year but will return in 2013.
The announcement was snuck into a post on the battle.net blog announcing that the 2012 battle.net championship will be taking place in Asia. The e-sports tournament is usually held at BlizzCon and the post went-on to confirm that because of a “jam-packed schedule”, BlizzCon will be skipping a year.
“We’re excited to be showcasing Blizzard eSports on a truly global stage this year. We’re also heavily focused on getting Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm into players’ hands as soon as possible. In light of our jam-packed schedule, we’ve decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013.”
The ‘all things Blizzard’ convention has taken place every year since 2005, with big announcements and deep insight into the current roster of titles in development. 2011’s announcement of the next World of Warcraft expansion, Mists of Pandaria did not go down well with all concerned and with nothing new to announce in 2012, it is probably best that the developer focus their efforts on delivering titles that are currently in the oven.
More information regarding BlizzCon 2013 will be revealed in the coming months.
