Xur has arrived! This week you’ll find him on Io, and he’s carrying the Merciless (Fusion Rifle), Lucky Pants (Hunter Legs), Mask of the Quiet One (Titan Helm), Starfire Protocol (Warlock Chest).
Congratulations! For all those PC and console players yet to have arguably the best item in the game, today is your lucky day! Because… Lucky Pants! Okay, so they might not be that great but if you’re a hand cannon connoisseur like myself you’ll undoubtedly appreciate these beautiful 100% authentic leather, buckle holding, star spinning trousers – guaranteed to bring out the inner-space cowboy in you. You’ll be drawing your Old Fashioned (and other hand cannons) like Speedy McGee with a nice boost of initial accuracy thrown in for those quick fire head shots. Honestly, it’s not the most useful exotic armour in the world but… space cowboy, what more do you need?
We’ve got Mask of the Quiet One for those solitary Titans; void ability kills grant health regen and taking damage grants ability energy. This one fits into the ‘ability regen’ category like a few of the exotics do, so it works pretty well without being particularly interesting.
Then for Warlocks, Starfire Protocol. The chest piece was a favourite amongst fusion grenade spamming Destiny 1 players, but since fusions died a death in the sequel it’s become slightly average. You do get some rift energy back from kills so there is that, but you’ll be struggling to find a good reason to wear this right now. Don’t completely write this off, though. Metas change, balancing is shifted. One day, we might see this chest piece return to its former glory.
LOOT OF THE WEEK – Merciless
Congratulations! For all those PC and console players yet to have arguably the best item in the game, today is your lucky day (no, really this time). Merciless melts anything you put in front of it – particularly high health enemies. Yellow bars? No problem. Public event and strike bosses? No problem. Calus? Get wrecked fatty. The gun basically builds an increased fire rate the more you fire it at a target, which means big numbers in the DPS pool. If you’ve not got this gun yet, do yourself a favour and go bite Xur’s hand off.
