DiRT Showdown Announced


Codemasters have announced DiRT Showdown, a new and explosive extension in the DiRT franchise which will be coming in May 2012 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

In this latest DiRT game, gamers will make the jump into new world of competitive racing. They will be boosting, tricking and smashing their way in order to get to ‘Showdown’ finals.

Julian Widdows, VP, devlopement had this to say on the announcement:

“DiRT Showdown is not the sequel to the authentic rally-centric DiRT 3, but a brand new experience from the DiRT team, We’re building on Codemasters Racing Studio’s world-class strengths in track design, graphics, AI, damage and online to create a new theatre of racing with the emphasis on accessibility and fun from race one.”

Mike Chapman, senior games designer at Codemasters added the following:

“DiRT Showdown charges into the arcade racing space with a uniquely Codemasters feel, Whether players are using nitrous to boost, smashing into their opponents or pulling off stunts, DiRT Showdown’s fresh handling system and super-charged damage engine embed excitement into every event.”

There are thee categories to DiRT Showdown’s action-sport following which are the following:

  • Full Contact Racing – Players use nitrous to blast past rivals and go through courses which contain ramps, multiple routes and obstacles
  • Demolition Derby – This takes control of the most advanced damage engine where games will smash and crash in order to gain victory.
  • Hoonigan – This is where gamers end up in huge stunt parks where accessible new controls give you the chance to become a freestyle driving hero.

Gamers will dominate their rivals from San Francisco to Miami and London to Tokyo. Pyrotechnics, lasers and thousands of fans give each venue a sports entertainment atmosphere. There are over 50 different events across four championships. There is also a variety of conditions which include sun, snow and rain. There is also the chance to play in the day and under the floodlights at night.

There will also be a new line up of off-road machines such as Ken Block’s all new Gymkhana FOUR H.F.H.V. Ford Fiesta will have a mix of vehicles across a range of classes. There will be saloons, muscle cars, pick-up trucks, hearses and vans.

Multiplayer action is also in abundance with split-screen multiplayer, 8 player online racing, on and offline quick fire party games and it will also include YouTube integration. You will also be able to issue ‘Showdown Challenges’ to your friends to compete against each other on or offline.
