External Hard Drive Support coming in PS4 Firmware 4.50!

The PS4 is getting a new firmware update soon, taking it to version 4.50. If you’ve registered for the System Software beta trial, you may well be getting an invite to test it out soon!

Possibly the biggest inclusion is, finally, the ability to use external hard drives on the system for games and other media. It’s a feature that the Xbox One has had since launch, and one that people have been clamouring for. Whilst it’s relatively simple to add a new internal hard drive to the PS4, the ability to use an external one is a very welcome addition.

Also included in the firmware update is the ability to use a custom image for your wallpaper, improvements to the Quick Menu options, a simplified notification list and the ability to watch 3D Blu-Rays in PlayStation VR!

We’ll be sure to bring you some coverage when it goes live of just how much benefit these additions bring
