Namco Bandai have confirmed that the Assassin’s Creed protagonist Ezio Auditore will be a playable character in their upcoming fighter, Soul Calibur V.
Speaking to Eurogamer, producer Hisaharu Tago said “When we were thinking about the next guest character we asked, which would be the best possible match for the world of Soul Calibur? It was always right there in front of our eyes that it was Assassin’s Creed and Ezio. He was just a perfect match. At that point we contacted Ubisoft.”
Ezio is said to be so powerful with his vast array of weapons that the Project Soul team (the game’s developers) are currently rebalancing the character to make him viable for tournament play! The weapons he’ll weild will include his Roman Longsword, Stiletto, Crossbow, Hidden gun and his Hidden blade which will certainly make for an entertaining fight against Soulcalibur’s already impressive line-up.
The first trailer introduces us to the younger version of Ezio that they’ve opted to include, by showing off some gameplay action of him beating on other characters from the title. With a new stage designed around Assassin’s Creed and music taken from the series, I think we can all agree it’s going to be pretty awesome to jump into the shoes of the Master Assassin when the game reaches us next year. We’d love to hear your thoughts on his inclusion in our comments section below.
As an added bonus, gamers who pre-order will get Lord Geo Dampierre (from the PSP title Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny) as a playable character. Take a look at him in full slapstick action in the somewhat comical second trailer, which also includes some entertaining, albeit mind-boggling, fighting technique.
Soul Calibur V is set for release in 2012 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
