No, this isn’t a dodgy link to where you can stream Family Guy episodes online surrounded by porn adverts, Fox really are making a Family Guy Online Game. Information is few and far between at the moment, but the fact that it even exist is mind boggling!
Everyone loves Family Guy, whether it’s the highly offensive jokes or the fact it’s basically what The Simpsons would be like past the watershed. While doing my usual loop of forum lurking in my lunch break, a thread titled “Familyguy MMO…. wait what?” caught my attention. Within it contained a link, www.familyguyonline.com, which upon clicking played the theme tune we all know and love, along with a snoring Mayor Adam West urging me to sign up.
Naturally I mashed the sign up button as quickly as my headshotting fingers allowed, and was presented with a standard signup form. I was also asked with a couple of comical questions like:
Which Family Guy character would you least like to play as in a game?
- Stewie’s sister
- Peter’s daughter
- Meg
- Chris’ sister
Throughout the signup process I was awarded ‘Clams’, the chosen currency for this mysterious and deeply intriguing title! I also received a rather funny email, but I won’t ruin all the surprises.
During the signup it was revealed that Family Guy Online will be a browser game utilising the very impressive Unity engine. First impressions are that Fox are trying to milk every cent out of the Family Guy franchise in the form of a micro-transaction fuelled MMO. Time will tell, and I will be watching very closely!
