Although it has yet to be confirmed, it would appear the man behind ICO, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian, Fumito Ueda, has left Sony.
Eurogamer sources suggest that Ueda is currently working on finishing the much delayed PlayStation 3 exclusive, The Last Guardian, in a freelance capacity. Originally penciled in for a “late 2011” release and then delayed to an unspecified time in 2012, the 41-year old’s departure is said to be one of the reasons why the game is taking so long to complete.

In September, Sony’s associate product marketing manager, Brian Dunn stated the following when The Last Guardian was not shown at the Tokyo Game Show:
“We wanted to confirm that The Last Guardian is not on the schedule for this year’s Tokyo Game Show. However, we can assure you that Ueda-san and the rest of the development team are hard at work to bring his lofty vision to life and deliver the very best gaming experience possible.”
If this information is indeed true, then Ueda’s departure means Sony has lost an extremely talented person from their ranks. On the other hand, it means Ueda is free to work on multi-platform titles, which means more gamers will get to experience his creations. What do you guys think?
