One of the biggest PlayStation 3 Exclusives and probably one this years biggest release in general, Heavy Rain, has been banned in United Arab Emirates. Gaming site Kotaku contacted Sony regarding this news and their response was as follows:
The UAE’s National Media Council (NMC) has banned Heavy Rain on PlayStation3. Heavy Rain has an 18+ PEGI rating and has been conceived from the earliest stages as a genuinely adult experience. This means that it deals with strong content including blood and nudity, but treats this content in a mature and sensitive manner. The game is not intentionally controversial or sensationalist, and all the themes and content are consistent with what consumers would expect to see in a mainstream Hollywood thriller.
This must come as inconvenient blow to Sony, who have high hopes for Heavy Rain sales, especially considering their has not been any valid reason for the ban. Although the game has a 18+ PEGI rating and contains some violence and disturbing scenes, there is still not enough to warrant a ban.
This is the second game this year to be banned in the UAE this year, with Darksiders being banned at the start of the year for no apparent reason either.
Im sure this wont stop fans of the game from getting their hands on the game but it is a disappointing inconvenience.
