"I'd love to do" New Destruction Derby Says Reflections Founder

During our recent trip to Ubisoft Reflections to see how Driver San Francisco was shaping up, we were lucky enough to have nice little chat with the founder of the studio, Martin Edmondson.

Amongst the Driver San Francisco related questions, he was asked about titles he had worked on in the past when the studio was known as Reflections Interactive. One such title was the hugely popular Destruction Derby, which was originally released on the PlayStation back in 1995.

When asked about a series revival on the current generation of consoles, Edmondson stated the following:

“The difficulty with those games is that Destruction Derby is owned by Sony. That’s by virtue of the fact that we did DD for Psygnosis, they [Psygnosis] were bought by Sony, so we would need their permission and blessing”.

“The other thing is that you could do a brilliant Destruction Derby, I’d love to do it, but it would have to be like a cheaper game…it’s a pretty light game. We’d do it technically very well, we’d enjoy it and it would be an enjoyable game, but it couldn’t be a big game like this [Driver San Francisco]”.

By “cheaper game”, we’re guessing he means a budget release, or perhaps a PlayStation Network based title. A brand new Destruction Derby title for around £9.99 on the PlayStation Store? It’s not certainly not beyond the realms of possibility, and we could actually see it selling quite well.

What do you guys think? Would you welcome the arrival of a new Destruction Derby title? Let us know your thoughts via the comment section below.

Just in case you think we’re not telling the truth, you can listen to Martin Edmondson talk about what we have mentioned in this news post via the audio player you see below.
