Kinect 2 Will Be Able Lip Read?

Microsoft are planning to release a successor to the Kinect that will accurately be able to read your lips, according to Eurogamer sources that is.

“Kinect 2” will be so powerful that it will be able to detect when you are angry, and determine the direction in which you are facing. The device, which Microsoft plan to bundle with the next Xbox console, will also offer improved motion sensing and voice recognition.

Unlike the current iteration of Kinect, its successor will be able to track the pitch and volume of your voice and facial characteristics to measure different emotional states.

At the moment, Kinect is held back by having to pass data to the Xbox 360 via old USB technology, which is capable of around 35MB/s, but only uses around 15/16MB/s. Kinect 2, however, will be able to feed the next Xbox more information.

“It can be cabled straight through on any number of technologies that just take phenomenally high res data straight to the main processor and straight to the main RAM and ask, what do you want to do with it?” stated the Eurogamer source.

With speculation in regards to the Xbox 360 successor hotting up, this news regarding Kinect 2 being in development only serves to further strengthen the notion that Microsoft will unveil a new console sometime in 2012. What do you guys think? Will Microsoft unveil, or even release successors to the Xbox 360 and Kinect in 2012? Be sure to let us know via the comments section below.
