To accompany the release date announcement, Nintendo also revealed a few details regarding the modes that will feature in the game.
The Special Games mode in Mario Tennis Open will allow you to perfect your skills whilst enjoying tennis matches with a Mario twist. You’ll be bale to check out games such as Super Mario Tennis, which puts a classic Super Mario Bros. twist on tennis drilling. As you play through familiar game levels, you’ll be able to use your tennis swing to stomp Goombas, and Koopas along the way.
Mario Tennis Open will allow you to play as your favourite characters from the Mushroom Kingdom or even compete with your lovable Mii characters. You’ll also be able to customise your Mii characters with Mushroom Kingdom-themed tennis gear, which will not only enhance their appearance, but also can boost their stats. The wide selection of available gear includes Bowser’s favourite racket, a Bullet Bill outfit and Peach’s tennis shoes.
In addition to a singles tennis match mode, Mario Tennis Open will let up to four players compete online in multiplayer doubles matches. You’ll also be able to compete online for leaderboard standings in the Open Match mode.
Whether you’re playing with other Nintendo 3DS owners in the same room or competitors from a distant land (other countries) using a wireless broadband internet connection, you’ll be able to cooperate to take on a common opponent or stay competitive and try to claim the glory for yourself. Because options are always a good thing, Mario Tennis Open will give you the choice of going for touch-screen controls or traditional button controls. You’ll also be able to switch seamlessly to the Nintendo 3DS system’s built-in motion controls.
