If you’re a video gamer you’ll be feeling pretty smug about yourself right now as there are literally 5* games releasing across all major platforms this week.
Forza Horizon 4
October 2nd – PC, Xbox One
Alright, if you bought the premium version you’d have been playing this already but it is officially out for everyone now! The reviews for Forza Horizon 4 has pushed it to the top spot of Xbox One exclusives with many claiming it to be the best Forza game to date. High praise for such a franchise. Forza Horizon 4 is focussed on seasonal gameplay, with each week taking place during one of the four seasons. It also includes a full online experience with up to 63 other players but if you’d prefer to travel the UK in isolation you can opt for singleplayer. In fairness, we Brits need to get used to being isolated eh?
Mega Man 11
October 2nd – Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One
Mega Man is back and he’s more Mega than ever. Mega Man 11 is a truly new game in the series and what I mean by that is it’s got new graphics and stuff. It too has got great reviews and our very own Andy scored it an 8.5 (spoiler alert). In fact, he’s done such a good write-up of the game that you may as well go read it. Saves me a job. Read the Mega Man 11 Review.
Astro Bot Rescue Mission
October 3rd – PSVR
Astro Bot Rescue Mission is a cutesy PSVR platformer where you control a tiny robot looking for its dispersed crew mates. There was a lot of buzz surrounding this game at a recent event and I saw many a folk on Twitter singing its praises. It was a nice change to see something positive on Twitter. It looks like that praise wasn’t misplaced either as the reviews are showing that it is indeed a damn good game. It’s not a short game either, with 20 levels, 6 boss battles and 26 challenges!
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
October 5th – PC, PS4, Xbox One
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is out on Friday and it’s already receiving high praise from game critics. The new title is set in ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian War. The twist here is that you can choose between two characters, Alexios or Kassandra, one of whom is a lady, much to the disgust of gamer guy’s decaying in their mom’s basement. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey takes a slight detour from the usual cookie-cutter gameplay and instead focusses on RPG elements including dialogue choices and multiple endings. It also features a giant climbable cock and balls making it a serious GOTY contender.
Super Mario Party
October 5th – Nintendo Switch
Super Mario Party is making its way onto Switch this week allowing you to play a virtual board game on your modern handheld console. Mario Party is a divisive game in the NGB camp but two of the NGB lads went hands-on with at EGX the other week and they bloody loved it. In fact, you can hear them say exactly that in the EGX special podcast. Mario Party is sure to make good use of the Switch’s many witchcraftian features so it’ll be one to check out, for sure.
