Next-Gen FIFA On The Horizon?

Sony’s PlayStation Meeting 2013 announcement sent the internet into overdrive, whilst EA announced earlier this week that they have been working on next-gen titles.

Following the announcement from Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) late yesterday evening, the internet has almost crumbled under the shear stress of hyperactivity and the rumours just keep coming. The Wall Street Journal are confident that this will indeed be the unveiling of the PlayStation 4/Orbis. To add fuel to the flame, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello stated earlier this week that next-gen versions of FIFA and Battlefield are in development, and the company plans to discuss these further in May.

Come the 20th of February most of us will be in front of a computer soaking up as much as we can, the question is whether FIFA will make an appearance of some sort. There is no doubt that SCE and EA share a close relationship, with Sony realising the importance of FIFA to their brand. Rewind 12 months, and this time last year the PS Vita was launched with FIFA available from day one. Given that the PS4/Orbis is expected to launch at the end of the year, having a launch title like FIFA could really impact early sales figures.

With E3 just around the corner in June, Microsoft will not wait too long after this PlayStation Meeting to announce their Xbox successor and analysts are confident that Microsoft will also aim for a Q4 launch. It’s going to be quite a run in to Christmas this year. Just a little food for thought, is this what to expect in the future?
