Nintendo and TECMO KOEI GAMES are re-launching one of the scariest horror titles from the Project series with Project Zero 2: Wii Edition which will be released exclusively for the Nintendo Wii on June 29th.
Project Zero 2: Wii Edition comes as a remake of the classic survival horror game Project Zero II: Crimson Butterfly and sees players take on the role of Mio and explore a mysteriously curses village aided by Mio’s twin sister, Mayu. Once Mayu follows a Crimson Butterfly into the woods, Mio has to follow and eventually they both come across the abandoned village. The girls must uncover the secrets of an ancient ritual and the abandoned village which is now been permanently shrouded in a mysterious darkness in order to escape its grasp.
As players explore this mysterious and dark villa, it will become apparent that your not alone after all and the twins are attacked by the ghosts of those who lived there before. The spirits can only be defeated by use of the Camera Obscura which is a mythical weapon that will allow players to interact with the spirit world. Once there is a ghost nearby, players will see an indicator at the top of the screen which shows how close it is. A red indicates an evil spirit and blue that the spirit is good or non-offensive.
To cause more damage to the evil spits, players must make sure the ghosts are right in front of them and the damage gauge is charged as much as possible before shooting. Achieving a pre-empt attack is a good way in order to cause even more damage to stop the spirit from attacking. Timing your shot with the Camera Obscura when the viewfinder becomes red is an advantage as players will earn a bonus and also deal more damage. More points can be gained by taking out multiple ghosts with the same shot.
Players can increase the base damage caused by the Camera Obscura by using the different film that is hidden across the village and also by modifying the lens you can obtain special powers which some will allow you to achieve combos by stunning the spirits and slowing them down. Players who achieve the special Fatal Frame combo will allow them to link multiple pictures together in rapid succession which will deal a large amount of damage to an ghosts that are around at that present time.
The game will take advantage of the Wii’s motion controls which will make players feel as if they are really in the haunted environment. The Wii Remote will turn into a trusty flashlight and is important when exploring every inch of the village to find all the hidden items and secrets. Players who get too scared when reaching out to open doors or picking up items can release their grip on the remote or retract their hand by releasing the A button. This new feature can be used to quickly avoid ghosts but may prevent you from grasping items.
A new feature in the game is the Haunted House mode. This mode tests players courage and tries to scare players at every turn. The action is on rails and can be reminded that of an haunted house ride in an amusement park. Players will use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk in order to move forward and look forward using the flashlight. Scary situations and ghosts will appear randomly in order to make players jump at every attempt. Adding to the fun, a second player can also join in and play against each other. They will take control when the ghosts appear and also what sounds are put through by the speaker in your Wii Remote. The second players goal? To scare the other player as much as they can with their unexpected scenes.
