The cloud gaming platform OnLive gets ready for it’s UK release today and has revealed the service’s pricing.
If you’ve not been introduced to OnLive yet, it’s a service that allows the user to play games that are stored on remote services and delivered via the Internet. Anyone who owns a PC (XP, Vista, 7), Intel-based Mac (OSX 10.5.8 or later) or the new OnLive Game System can stream games and play them. The advantage of this new platform is that low-end PCs, providing they can play video, can play any kind of games because the game itself is computed elsewhere.
Anyone can sign up for a free membership that allows users to take advantage of OnLive’s social features and playable demo’s at no cost. New releases can be purchased individually starting from £1.99 or there is a ‘PlayPack’ bundle for members which features 100+ games including Fear 3, Homefront, Borderlands, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Saints Row 2, Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition and World of Goo, for a mere £6.99 a month.
Steve Perlman, CEO of OnLive has said the following (via gamesindustry.biz) – “OnLive will utterly transform gaming in the UK. No discs, big downloads or specialised hardware are needed. OnLive gives you the latest games instantly, anytime, anywhere on HDTV, PC, Mac, as well as soon on iPad and Android tablets.”
“It makes high performance gaming as accessible as streaming video, with unique social features, such as watching thousands of people play games live with voice chat and Facebook integration.”
