Original Xbox games go backwards compatible

All the Xboxes in one Xbox

The first batch of original Xbox games are now playable via Xbox One’s backwards compatibility feature. The initial release brings 13 playable titles to the Xbox One and although it was announced that this wouldn’t be as big a list as the Xbox 360 there are still more to come.

The current list is as follows:

  • Black
  • BloodRayne 2
  • Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
  • Dead to Rights
  • Fuzion Frenzy
  • Grabbed by the Ghoulies
  • The King of Fighters Neowave
  • Ninja Gaiden Black
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
  • Psychonauts
  • Red Faction II
  • Sid Meier’s Pirates
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Each of the titles will display in 4K when the Xbox One X releases in two weeks time, however, aspect ratios are locked at their originals, 4:3. Ninja Gaiden is an exception to the rule as this originally supported 16:9. Standard Xbox One owners will definitely see an improvement in performance and texture quality when playing the original titles although these are direct ports and not enhanced versions.

Whilst all the titles can be downloaded from the Xbox Store the original discs will also work so maybe it’s time to scour the charity shops for some bargains!
