It’s that time of the month again where we find out what freebies PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be getting their grubby mitts on.
PlayStation Plus
A solid line-up of PlayStation Plus games sees inFAMOUS: Second Son and Child of Light coming for free to PlayStation 4 owners alongside a bunch of other treats for PS3 and PS Vita owners.
inFAMOUS: Second Son is an open-world adventure game following the story of Delsin Rowe, a bit of a douche, who finds himself with a Conduit power of absorption, allowing him to use the powers of other Conduits he meets throughout the game. As with the other games in the series, Second Son has a karma system which allows you to make ‘good and bad’ choices in the game which impact on the overall story. inFamous: Second Son received a largely positive review score and is arguably still one of the better-looking games on PS4.
Child of Light is a slightly more sedate game created by Ubisoft but equally, if not more, well received when it released back in 2014. Child of Light follows Aurora, a child who seemingly dies, after being frozen, following the death of her mother. It’s not the happiest set up for a game, I’ll admit, but the gorgeous visuals and turn-based combat make for a genuinely enjoyable and ethereal game.
Both RIGS and That’s You are also included in this month’s PlayStation Plus lineup. That’s You has appeared for the last couple of months but if you haven’t tried it out yet you need to get on it right away. It’s a ridiculously fun multiplayer game which utilises PlayStations’ new PlayLink system that bridges the gap between your mobile and PS4. RIGS is also added as a bonus title although it is only available for PS VR players. RIGS is a futuristic mech-based Olympics with both singleplayer and multiplayer gameplay. The game itself may not be ground-breaking but it is a great showcase for what the PSVR can do so it’s well worth picking up if you’ve got the tech.

Xbox Live Gold
Xbox Live Gold subscribers can get a bit of practice in for Forza Motorsport 7 as Forza Motorsport 5 is available for free from September 1st with Oxenfree joining it from the 16th.
Forza Motorsport 5 was the flagship launch title for the Xbox One and whilst it was a little stunted in some areas it’s genuinely still a decent racing title. Narrated by the Top Gear team (old, not new) the Forza Motorsport 5 career is consists of various leagues opening up the supercars from the off. No more starting from the bottom and working your way up! Forza Motorsport 5 didn’t have the greatest amount of content but with 200 or so cars at launch + the GOTY car park, free car packs and 17 tracks you’ll still find plenty to do, at least until Forza Motorsport 7 releases next month.
Oxenfree is more of an ‘indie-type’ game focused heavily on conversing with the characters you meet on your journey. The 2.5d adventure follows Alex, a teen who is exploring a mysterious island with her friends, and the island is steeped with paranormal activity (not the shite film). The main crux of the game is the conversation between Alex and her friends and the consequence of choice. Each dialog decision you make in the game will shape the story leading to multiple endings.
