PS3 3D update coming in June?

by

3D seems to be a term that is being used a huge amount so far in 2010 and with films such as Avatar and other up and coming big blockbuster titles including Toy Story 3 and also Sky Sport’s world exclusive viewing of the first football match shown in 3D, its seems that 3D technology is starting to make its push to try to get 3D tech into the mainstream, it was only a matter of time before someone else stepped in and that someone else is of course Sony.

It’s been reported for some time now that Sony would be releasing an update for the PS3 in the near future which would transform your PS3 into playing 3D games and Blu-Ray movies as well  (with the big help of a 3D TV of course) but nobody knew exactly when this update would be coming to PS3 owners.

Some good news happened today it seems when mcvuk.com posted an article stating that the 3D update for the PS3 would be coming in June as according to another article on reuters.com, Sony will be launching 3D sets in the same month so it would clearly make sense to do both at the same time.

“The maker of the PlayStation 3 game console plans to release 3D game software around June in time for TV launch” stated the article on reuters.com.

Currently, only the game Avatar offers 3D gaming for Playstation 3 owners but the incoming Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition will also offer a limited selection of 3D levels and with other big titles being released towards the end of 2010, I’m sure there is a lot more 3D titles to come that’s for sure.

It will be interesting to see what happens next and to see if Sony confirms that the update will indeed be coming in June but personally I think it’s a pretty safe bet that it will.

Thanks to Adam from WENB for the article.

I'm a huge fan of the PES, MGS and Uncharted series', and anything else in between. If you love a good gaming discussion or want to talk about anything else, then feel free to get in touch.
