Rumour: PlayStation 4 Codenamed Orbis, Will Launch Late 2013

by

Kotaku have reported some details on the next PlayStation they have said to have got from a ‘reliable’ source.

The codename for the next PlayStation is apparently Orbis and the specs will feature an AMD x64 CPU and an AMD Southern Islands GPU. This means the console will be capable of displaying games at resolution up to 4096 x 2160 and 3D games in 1080p.

The report also states that Sony will not offer any backwards compatibility with PlayStation 3 games and that the next console will feature an in built anti-used games measure. Games will be available via blu-ray disc or digital download, and it is likely that it will be locked to a single PSN account that will require players to be online to gain full access to the system. Second hand game buyers will need to pay an unlock fee in order to access the full content on offer in a game.

Kotaku also suggest that select studios have been receiving the Dev Kits for the new console since the start of the year and more finalised units will arrive towards the end of 2012.
