Rumour: Sony Aiming To Release PS4 Before Christmas 2013

by

It all kicked off this morning with rumours pointing to a Christmas 2013 release for Xbox 720, and now reports are emerging that Sony are aiming to release their next console before that particular period.

VG247 has been told that specifications for the PlayStation 4 were in place at least two years ago, and that Sony are confident that they will release their console ahead of Microsoft’s offering before the Christmas 2013 period.

One of their sources stated, “Sony are completely in the belief that they have the jump on Microsoft this time. You should be watching the timing of next year’s E3 keynotes, and who’s going to go first”. Another source added that that all next-generation systems will be in place “by 2014”.

Even more interestingly, apparently Sony has already made favoured developers and publishers aware of the PlayStation 4, allowing some of them to work on it.

“Top line publishers already know about it,” said another VG247 source. “Developers working with publishers – like Ubisoft, for example – already know what’s going on. They’re already working on it”.

Apparently, most developers will be fully briefed regarding the PlayStation 4 by the end of this year. Some have even been invited to events in May and June in the US.

Interesting, very interesting. We are of the belief that Sony will (at the very least) show off a tech demo or talk about the PlayStation 4 at E3 this year, so this rumour isn’t beyond the realms of possibility at all.

What do you guys think? Would you welcome some sort of confirmation regarding the PlayStation 4 from Sony? Does a release before Christmas 2013 sound good to you? Let us know via the comments section below.
