Sea of Thieves Closed Beta Details

by

You best start believing in betas, you’re in one!

Sea of Thieves is the first non-Kinect game to come from game dev legends Rare for quite some time so there’s reason for excitement. It’s been in alpha testing for quite some time all whilst covered by NDAs but this is the first time that those outside of the alpha will be able to go hands-on with the game.

The Sea of Thieves closed beta is available for all members of the Insider Program that registered before December 1st and of course to those who have pre-ordered the game. If you have preordered the game on the Xbox or Windows Stores the beta client will be available to download 24-hours before the go-live date of the beta. If, however, you’ve pre-ordered from a retailer you’ll need to redeem your code for the Black Dog Cosmetic pack to gain access to the test.

But when is it? The beta will begin on January 24th and run through to January 29th.

The beta itself, whilst comprises of the actual game running and the actual engine is a bespoke area crafted specifically for the test. This means that content experienced in the beta isn’t likely to appear in the full game so you won’t be spoiling your experience when the game finally releases in March. This bespoke game world will let you experience a breadth of features, though, including sailing, combat and treasure hunting. Unlike the alpha, this won’t be covered by NDA so you can even stream and share all the #content.
