Sony Announces New "Slim" PS3 Model

by

Sony today announced at their press conference during the Tokyo Game Show that a new and updated ‘slim-line’ model of the PlayStation 3 is to be released.

Although North America will have three models to choose from (12GB, 250GB and 500GB), here in the UK, only two models will see the light of day which are the 500GB model which will be released in the UK on September 28th and the 12GB model which will be released on October 12th.

The 12GB model features a mount to connect an external SATA drive or it can be upgraded with an official 250GB Sony hard drive. The new slim-line model will also feature a brand new ‘sliding’ disc cover. Sony has stated that an RRP for the new models has not been set and that they have left it up to individual retailers to set the price but with the 500GB costing $299 in the U.S and the 12GB retailing at $229, expect the prices to be around £180 and £150 respectively . Various new bundles for the new slim model will be released with a Fifa 13, Assassins Creed III and Wonderbook: Book of Spells bundles all hitting stores in the run up to Christmas. I'm a huge fan of the PES, MGS and Uncharted series', and anything else in between. If you love a good gaming discussion or want to talk about anything else, then feel free to get in touch.
