President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA), Jack Tretton has thanked owners of the PS3 for choosing the PS3 as their entertainment device of choice and in turn, Sony had a great year overall in 2009 compared to that of 2008 and Mr Tretton acknowledges that the fans really made this happen.
As we all know, 2008 didn’t exactly go to plan for the PS3 in the way we wanted it to but 2009 was a massive difference in terms of quality from Sony with massive blockbuster titles which included – Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Killzone 2 and Infamous to name a few which helped in a great way for the PS3 towards Q4 of last year. 2009 was the start of things to come from Sony and with the quality of the PS3 titles getting even better than before, I’m sure we will be blown away alot more times yet in 2010 and im sure we can expect some massive announcements coming up later on in the year for the PS3. 2010 is going to be another amazing year for Sony, I can feel it.
Another interesting point is the fact that the Sony Playstation was the only brand to see consumers in three territories which were the UK, US and Japan spending 15% more on PS3 software in 2009 than they did in 2008 and although that’s great, it’s even better when you realise that the gaming category as a whole had a 9% decline in software sales which makes the PS3 sales even more sensational.
With regards to PS3 hardware, that is doing extremely well also with sales increases of 36% compared to that in January 2008.
Jack Tretton also stated in his thank you post to PS3 owners that there are many new games that they are keeping close to their chest for the time being. Here is the quote –
“It truly is a great time to be a PS3 owner as we have so much more in store this year. We’ve already come out of the gates with MAG, White Knight Chronicles, BioShock 2 and we have an onslaught of new IP and blockbuster games just around the corner with Heavy Rain, God of War III, and Final Fantasy XIII… not to mention the many other games we’re keeping up our sleeves. We’re also bringing groundbreaking technology to the masses with the launches of 3D gaming and the new motion controller later this year. We know both will open entirely new doors for you to enhance your gaming experiences and will provide new ways for you to think about interactive entertainment”. Said Mr Tretton.
So guys, exciting times ahead for the PS3 in 2010 and it should be another year to remember for us all with more great games coming our way starting with Heavy Rain and God of War III of course. Let’s look forward to E3 and Gamescom 2010 for some major Sony announcements and a bright 2010.
