Sony Working On New Streaming Service For The PS3

by

It’s fair to say that gamers all across the world have had some great streaming services gifted to them via for their PS3’s since it was released. In the UK we have the BBC iPlayer, ITV Player and 4oD, as well as subscription based services such as LoveFilm and Mubi. North American PS3 users have the option of using similar services which include the likes of Netflix, Hulu Plus and Vudu.

It seems though that Sony want to expand the whole streaming/multimedia experience even further with a job application popping up on the official Playstation Jobs website for a new movie/TV streaming application for PlayStation 3. The following about the role is posted below –

You will be THE user interface designer on a movie/TV streaming application for PlayStation®3, your goal will be to design and prototype a consistent and logical architecture for the UI from a series of existing wireframes and style guides to further define the transitions, flow and animation to provide an intuitive user interface and experience.

There is one part that stands out in the job listing which states the following –

Prior experience designing user interfaces, preferably for console games.

Like the guys over at playstationlifestyle.net have stated, it clearly sends a message that the new movie/TV streaming app for the PS3 will be built around the current infrastructure rather than other streaming services that are currently on available on the console which use an internet based web link system.

It will certainly be interesting to see what comes out of this. Could it be something totally different, or a mix of something we already have? Let’s hope that we hear more about this service very soon.

I'm a huge fan of the PES, MGS and Uncharted series', and anything else in between. If you love a good gaming discussion or want to talk about anything else, then feel free to get in touch.
