Tactical Espionage Goes Open World, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Revealed

We’re excited, very excited. Hideo Kojima has only gone and revealed the next entry in the Metal Gear Solid series. Running on Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is said to be a stealth based experience set in an open world.

Ground Zeroes was shown off earlier this morning during a special Metal Gear 25th anniversary event taking place in Japan. Details are scarce at the moment, but it seems like some attendees were just a little bit impressed with what they saw.

“Demo of “Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes”, started w cutscene (all realtime), went into gameplay, open world, night, raining, base. AMAZING,” tweeted Mark MacDonald. “Snake crawled @ avoiding searchlights, killed guard, rode jeep, called in heli for evac. Sounds like MG, but the scale & atmosphere… Wow.”

One attendee revealed that the demo was running on a PC, which might suggest that Ground Zeroes will be a next-gen title. Also, whilst it has yet to be confirmed, it seems like the Snake in the demo is none other than Big Boss himself. Does this mean that Ground Zeroes is set some time after the events of Snake Eater and Peace Walker? Probably. Yes. Maybe.

For now, join us in salivating at the image below, courtesy of the good folks at Famitsu. Another strong indication that the main character will indeed be Big Boss. We approve. How about you? Let us know via the comments section below.
