The Unfinished Swan Coming To PSN, New Trailer Revealed

Originally unveiled back in 2008, The Unfinished Swan raised many eyebrows across the gaming world. Nothing was shown for years after that, with many assuming the project had been canned, but that’s certainly not the case.

Today, Sony and Giant Sparrow have released a brand new trailer for the game, along with some details regarding its weird and wonderful nature.

If you haven’t heard of The Unfinished Swan before, then you should probably know that it’s best described as a first-person painting game that begins in a totally white space. This might sound a little strange, but you explore the world around you by throwing blobs of paint. You play as a boy named Monroe who is chasing after a swan that has stepped out of a painting, wandering off into a surreal and unfinished world.

Sounds a bit like a thatgamecompany title, no? That’s because, as Giant Sparrow’s Ian Dallas states, their relationship with Sony is essentially “the same kind of thing”. Sony calls it an “incubation deal”, which means in addition to giving Giant Sparrow funding, they also provide them with office space, equipment and advice.

Going back to the game itself, Dallas states the development team’s goal is to “give players strange and beautiful experiences they’ve never had before”. Interestingly, he also says the white world painting aspect of The Unfinished Swan only covers the first 15 minutes of the game. “After that, things get really weird”, he adds teasingly.
