Yes, that’s right Counter-Strike fans, Valve has today officially announced a brand new addition to the highly popular series in the form of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
The mutliplayer first-person shooter is being co-developed with Hidden Path Entertainment (they also worked on Counter-Strike: Source), and will be released early next year on Steam, Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network.
According to Valve, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will bring with it new gamplay modes, maps, characters and weapons. For all of you hardcore Counter-Strike fans, the game will include updates of classic maps such as de_dust too. As if that wasn’t enough, matchmaking and leaderboards will also be present.
“Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999.” stated Valve’s VP of Marketing, Doug Lombardi.
“For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS’ award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.”
If this announcement has you aching to play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, you’ll be happy to know that you won’t have to wait too long. The multiplayer first-person shooter will be playable at the Eurogamer Expo 2011 and PAX Prime!
