Xbox Game Pass to include first-party games

One halo’f a deal!

Xbox has today announced that their Game Pass program (pretty much Netflix for gamers) will be including first-party Microsoft Studio titles as and when they release. That means Xbox One fans subscribing to the service will get their hands on these games the day of release.

There were rumblings of a shakeup to digital technology within the Xbox camp over the last few weeks. Some speculated a trade-in system whereby you could cash in your unplayed digital titles for some Xbox store credit. Others thought it was possibly related to the gifting scheme somehow but I’m fairly confident no one saw this one coming.

Xbox Game Pass currently hosts over 100 games from both the Xbox One and Xbox 360. Recent titles added to the scheme come in the form of Gears of War 4, Metal Gear Solid 5 & Bayonetta with Halo Wars 2 & Fable Anniversary (amongst others) joining them in Feb. So whilst the list at the moment is far from bleak this new announcement will see the likes of Sea of Thieves, Crackdown 3 & State of Decay 2 become playable on their days of release. It’s also been noted that future Halo, Gears and Forza titles will follow suit.

The Xbox Game Pass is currently priced at £7.99 a month with a 6-month option selling for $59.99 (US only at the moment) which was also announced today. This means if you snag just two release games via Game Pass it’s pretty much wiped its face clean and thats without the other available content. It looks like Xbox Game Pass is here to stay and the value for money is quite frankly incredible. Here’s hoping we see plenty of announcements at E3 to make use of Xbox Game Pass.
